Whether you are interested in becoming a delivery driver or need to hire a delivery driver, there are certain questions that will need to be answered during the interview, and the following guide will help you prepare:

Have you ever been in a car accident?

This question is very important because it will allow you to assess the candidate’s driving history and you will be able to see whether or not they are reliable. The candidate must be honest about their answer and should ideally have a clean driving record. A successful answer would also include how they handled an accident calmly.

Have you come across any angry customers and how did you handle the situation?

This question will allow you to get an idea of the candidate’s customer service skills, so look at their ability to resolve conflict and you should also look for strong interpersonal and communication skills. The candidate should be able to tell you about their experience working with customers in challenging situations and how they were able to make the customer happy.

What steps do you take to ensure your deliveries are completed in a timely manner?

This question will allow you to get a sense of the candidate’s time-management skills, so consider their knowledge of local traffic laws and safe driving and determine whether or not they have strong time-management skills. They should be able to discuss their ability to adhere to deadlines or assigned schedules.

What class of license do you have?

This question will help you figure out the candidate’s credentials and driving history and you will be able to determine if this information aligns with your company’s needs. A full class G licence and an understanding of the role and necessary licensing are a must, as is a clean driving history.

What skills do you have that would set you apart from other delivery drivers?

The candidate must be able to tell you about their experience as a delivery driver and their skill set should match your needs, so gauge their understanding of the role when you ask this question.

How do you stay alert and focused while on the road?

Candidates need to fully understand the dangers that come with driving while tired or under the influence and the aim of this question is to assess how well they understand these risks. The candidate must know traffic laws and understand the dangers associated with driving when not fully alert.

What would you do if you got lost during a delivery?

Candidates need to have strong navigational skills, and they must be able to work under pressure because it is possible to get lost when making deliveries. They should also have great problem-solving skills to not stress when dealing with an unexpected situation.
