Job interviews can be stressful, but being prepared will help you get through the process and will increase your chances of landing the job. Many topics will be discussed during your interview, and while it can be hard to talk about your weaknesses, this is something you will have to address and knowing how to talk about this aspect will make a very big difference.

You will be asked about your weaknesses, so you have to be ready for this question. Answering it may be tricky, but if you know how to talk about this, you will do great and will be considered a serious candidate. The key is to discuss your weaknesses in a way that helps you stand out, and it’s important to remember that hiring managers are looking to see how you handle such challenges on the job. They want to know how you will tackle your weakness, so think long and hard about this question to come up with the right approach.

Make sure you read the job description very carefully because you don’t want to list any attributes that are critical to that position as a weakness. Any abilities that are critical to the performance of the job should not be on your weakness list, so you have to be careful in this regard. Impatience, difficulty delegating tasks, uncomfortable with taking risks, taking on too much responsibility and nervousness about public speaking are all examples of weaknesses on the job, and these are things you can discuss as long as the job does not require any specific skills in these areas.

While it may be tempting to say that you don’t have any weaknesses, this should never be your answer because nobody is perfect, and a hiring manager will see through this response. Stating that you have no weaknesses will work against you because the interviewer will classify you as someone who is overconfident or someone who does not understand their mistakes. You can also be considered as someone with a lack of awareness, so make sure you acknowledge your weakness and put it in a positive light. Talk about how you’ve transformed this weakness into a strength and prove to the hiring manager that you recognize the areas in which you need to improve and that you’ve taken the steps to better yourself.

Don’t view this question as a negative, and use this opportunity to set yourself apart. Discuss the steps you’re taking to address your weaknesses because this will show the interviewer that you are responsible and serious about your future and the job. Your answer should prove that you are willing to make changes whenever you’re faced with challenges, and this will then be viewed as a strength.
